Dis: A tale of Life and Death
The mastadon of Nim-Yola are very large and very intelligent creatures with obvious customs and traditions, such as their well-known funerary rites. They are highly social, with matriarchs and elder bulls playing a crucial part in socializing younger members. They are dangerous but tempting prey, so many predators will nonetheless take the risk of attacking them. In the deserts, a hairless variety has evolved that the Desert People call mûmakil (sing. mûmak).
